Boston tour companies logged a 28 percent rise in reservations for July compared with the same period last year, according to figures compiled by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The increase follows a pattern seen in prior summers when locals and out-of-town guests book guided outings to avoid peak heat and crowds at major sites. Demand has centered on routes that combine history with neighborhood stops rather than large-bus loops.
North End and Charlestown routes draw steady groups
Walks through the North End now include stops at the Paul Revere House on North Square and the nearby Old North Church, with operators adding evening sessions that end at Hanover Street cafes. In Charlestown, tours of the USS Constitution on Pier 1 pair with short talks at the adjacent Navy Yard museum, where groups gather before boarding harbor ferries back to Long Wharf. Both areas run programs tied to the Boston National Historical Park, which schedules ranger-led segments on weekdays.
One operator, Boston by Foot, schedules 14 different routes this month, including a 90-minute Beacon Hill walk that starts at the State House and ends near the Boston Common. Another program run by the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum on Congress Street offers timed entry that includes a harbor cruise segment on replica vessels.
Prices and schedules reflect summer patterns
Standard adult tickets for the Freedom Trail walking tours cost $18 when purchased online in advance, while combined museum and boat packages run between $32 and $45. The bureau recorded 19.4 million visitors to the metro area in 2025, with summer months accounting for roughly 35 percent of annual totals. Slots for the July 15 and July 22 dates on several North End walks filled within four days of posting.
Bookings can be made directly through company websites or at the visitor center on Boston Common. Same-day availability remains limited on weekends, so advance purchase is advised for groups larger than four.
