Jamaica Plain Boston: JP's Best Restaurants, Breweries & Park Life
Jamaica Plain — universally known as JP — is Boston's most diverse and genuinely progressive neighbourhood: a 20-minute Orange Line ride from Downtown Crossing that feels like a different, more relaxed city. The main corridor along Centre Street is a parade of excellent taquerias, independent coffee shops, craft cocktail bars, and Latin restaurants reflecting JP's large Dominican and Puerto Rican community alongside its long-established LGBTQ presence. The Samuel Adams Brewery (open for tours and tastings) is just off the Jamaica Plain centre, an essential Boston craft beer stop. Jamaica Pond is a hidden gem: a glacial kettle pond ringed by a 1.5-mile walking path where locals jog and kayak in summer. The Arnold Arboretum, part of Harvard, offers 281 acres of botanical gardens free year-round. JP rewards slow exploration — it's the Boston neighbourhood that locals are most proud of and tourists rarely discover.
